Emilio Lussu: A Life for Freedom

Through images, texts, and multimedia, the museum tells the story of Emilio Lussu , born in Armungia in 1890, a leading figure in the First World War with the Sassari Brigade, founder of the Sardinian Action Party, and a central figure in Italian anti-fascism . The exhibition follows the stages of his life: his experience at the front, his return to Sardinia, his resistance to the regime's advance, his exile, and finally his return to Italy and his commitment to democratic reconstruction.

Joyce Lussu: A Voice of the Twentieth Century

Alongside him, the story of Joyce Lussu Salvadori is presented: writer, partisan, and central figure in twentieth-century culture and politics. A companion in life and ideals, she was awarded the Silver Medal of Military Valor for her commitment to the Resistance. A photographic exhibition traces her personal and intellectual journey, from the years of clandestine struggle to her active role in postwar cultural and political debate. A journey through time, through the eyes of a woman who spanned and shaped the century.

A Year on the Plateau: The War Told from the Inside

One of the most evocative sections is dedicated to A Year on the Plateau , Lussu's seminal work, a true masterpiece of international literature on the Great War. Completing the exhibition, interactive environments and period films offer insight into each stage of their experience.

The study, the posters, the memory

The museum also extends to the nearby cultural center on Viale Gramsci , where Emilio Lussu's studio has been faithfully reconstructed as it was in his home in Cagliari, the scene of the fascist attack of 1926. A selection of posters from the Sardinian Institute for the History of Resistance and Autonomy is on display in the same spaces, helping to provide the broader context of their commitment.
