A museum on the peasant civilization of the territory
The Ethnographic Museum “Sa Domu de is Ainas” – “ The house of work tools ” – is set up in the spaces of the old town hall , built around 1860 on the site historically dedicated to the Church of San Giovanni . The town hall also housed the Monte Granatico for a long time , a fundamental institution for the creation of grain reserves for sowing , and the first elementary schools in the town, where Emilio Lussu attended. The Museum is located close to the Nuraghe Armungia, thus also constituting the access structure for visiting the archaeological site.

From community exhibition to participatory museum
“Sa Domu de is Ainas” was born as an exhibition in 1982. The collection of objects of women’s, peasant and pastoral work was created by a group of girls from the village at a time of great participation in the democratic life of the community. In transforming the collection into a museum , in 2000, the curators wanted to inherit the mission of that time: to highlight the material testimonies of a society distant in time but that the new generations should not forget.
A journey through thematic sections and traditions
The itinerary is divided into thematic sections, which allow you to discover the universe of peasant culture expressed over the centuries by the communities of the territory . The exhibition is made up of work tools, fabrics, everyday objects, enriched by period photos, illustrations, testimonies and insights. In the Clothing Room, the sartorial reproductions of the festive male and female clothing of Armungia from the last twenty years of the nineteenth century are exhibited. The Women's Work Room is dedicated to the typically female activities of weaving and bread-making . The Iron Craft Room documents the work of the blacksmith while the Territory Room illustrates the activities of goat breeding , hunting and fishing . Finally, the Agriculture Room is characterized by the presence of the large calendar of agricultural work , with the display of objects and the indication of the main phases of work on the land for the different types of crops.
