ARMUNGIA, SO SMALL AS IT IS

Armungia is located in Gerrei , in the inland part of south-eastern Sardinia, half an hour away from Muravera and its beaches, and about an hour from the city of Cagliari. With fewer than four hundred inhabitants, ours is currently the smallest municipality in Southern Sardinia , located in an area with one of the lowest population densities on the island. Despite its small size, Armungia is a welcoming, participatory, and visionary community , custodian of a heritage of architecture and landscape, monuments and cultural spaces, knowledge and traditions, bonds and civic spirit.

Its ancient origins are evidenced by the Nuraghe that still stands within the town, an imposing guardian of the land for over three millennia. Its history is linked to the great story of Emilio Lussu , a heroic figure of the "Sassari" Brigade in the Great War, founder of the Sardinian Action Party , anti-fascist exile, founding father, and writer. Here, you can discover the universe of a now-vanished peasant culture , be fascinated by ancient rites and traditions , and explore trails to discover a rugged and wild land, rich in colors, scents, and panoramas.

The portal www.armungiadascoprire.it —created as part of the municipal project funded by the PNRR M1C3, Intervention 2.1 for the Attractiveness of Historic Villages —aims to tell the story and stories of Armungia, describe its locations, and present its museums and archaeological heritage . It aims to promote the events that bring its cultural spaces and squares to life. It also aims to suggest the best ways to stay and discover its typical products . It was therefore created to create an integrated vision of the town and project it outward, preserving the memory of the past while looking to the future.
